Many employers are aware that social media is an essential tool for recruiting Gen Y. But even those who have added social media to their toolkits are not necessarily using it to its full potential, wasting both time and resources. On the retention side, employers may also know that while more than 58% of Gen Y would like to stay with one company for their entire career only 23% think they will still be there after two years. This disconnect is critical as attrition is both time-consuming and costly. In order to effectively attract students to your company and retain them in their jobs, you need to speak the social media language that they already speak fluently both in the recruiting process and after they have come on board.

This full-day workshop will give you important insights into the media and online habits of Gen Y – more than 10 million of who are using social media. It will also reveal whether you are truly connecting to these relationship-oriented and hyper-connected candidates through the most relevant and effective platforms.

The day will begin with an overview of the main social media recruiting platforms: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn. We will then move on to examining more cutting edge sites like Foursquare, Pinterest and Instagram. In order to use these media effectively you not only have to understand them but also get some practical experience with them; the workshop will include instruction and demonstration as well as hands-on work by attendees and facilitator feedback.

The second half of the workshop will focus on using social media to best reflect your company’s brand, including leveraging your current employees’ enthusiasm for the company as your best marketing tool to prospective hires. You will learn how to use social media tools to your best advantage including: what’s important to incorporate on your Facebook page; how to develop a Twitter communications plan; which videos to build into your 2012 YouTube strategy; and, more.

This workshop will leave you feeling confident to begin using social media, set targets, and choose the right platforms to increase your recruiting success.

Please note: All attendees will be asked to complete an online social media survey to determine their social media knowledge prior to the workshop. Content will be based on an assessment of the group’s abilities to ensure all attendees gain valuable skills and knowledge during the workshop.
