Explore the City’s Best: Local Flavors within Walking Distance

The downtown core of Hamilton is home to some of the best culinary experiences in Ontario. Whether you are looking for a high-energy team dinner, a quiet spot for professional networking, or a classic pub atmosphere, we have categorized the local "hubs" all within a short walk of the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel.

Pro-Tips for Attendees:

  • Reservations: Hamilton’s downtown core is very popular on weekday nights. We highly recommend booking ahead via OpenTable or calling the restaurant directly.
  • Dietary Needs: Most King William restaurants are very accommodating. The Mule is a safe haven for Gluten-Free diners!

Walk East on King St and turn left on King William. This street is the city's premier dining hub.

  • The Mule: A lively, high-energy spot for gourmet tacos. Bonus: The entire menu is 100% gluten-free.
  • Berkeley North: Sophisticated West-Coast-inspired dishes and incredible cocktails. Perfect for a quiet professional dinner.
  • Hambrgr: Locally sourced, over-the-top gourmet burgers and a massive craft beer list.
  • Sagarmatha Curry Palace: Authentic, award-winning Indian and Nepalese cuisine in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

Head out the front doors and explore the "main drag" for local favourites.

  • The French: Located right at King and James. A bright, beautiful bistro specializing in elevated French-Italian classics.
  • The Diplomat: Directly across the street. Globally inspired small plates and a stunning, trendy interior.
  • Born & Raised: A 7-minute walk North on James. Wood-fired pizzas and fresh oysters from a Top Chef Canada finalist.

For a more relaxed, pub-style vibe, head south to Augusta Street.

  • The Ship: A Hamilton institution. Famous for craft beer, fish and chips, and a cozy "hidden gem" feel.
  • Pheasant Plucker: Your go-to traditional British pub for a relaxed pint and classic comfort food.

Pedestrian-friendly streets are lined with patios and unique architecture. A great spot for a casual evening stroll followed by a great meal.

  • The Gown & Gavel: A neighborhood staple featuring a massive, multi-level patio and a historic interior. It offers a classic pub-style menu with elevated appetizers, burgers, and salads—perfect for a social "drinks and apps" vibe.
  • Electric Diner: An 80s-themed neon diner that is high-energy and nostalgic. It is an excellent choice for a vibrant group dinner featuring "comfort food with a twist," including gourmet sliders, loaded tots, and famous milkshakes.
  • Amigos: A casual, local favorite specializing in Cali-Mex inspired comfort food. Think tacos, burritos, and great vegetarian options in a relaxed, "no-fuss" environment.
  • The Moodys: Located right at the entrance of the village, they specialize in arcade vibes and pizza—great for a late-night bite or a casual team hangout.

Whether you're arriving early or staying a little longer after the conference, both Ontario and Hamilton offer a wealth of experiences worth exploring. From the historic charm of Dundurn Castle to the natural beauty of over 100 waterfalls tucked into the Niagara Escarpment, Hamilton is a city that surprises and delights. And beyond the city, Ontario invites you to explore wine country, lakeside towns, and cultural landmarks—all within easy reach. Make the most of your visit and turn your conference trip into a memorable getaway.
